About Us
The Hmong Mennonite of Colorado planted its congregation on March of 1996 in Arvada Mennonite Church. Our first fellowship was established on August 7, 1997 and held in Arvada Mennonite, Colorado. The total of attendees of that special day was 163; which combined members, guest, friends and outsiders. In the year 2000, by then, we had a total of 21 family members in our congregation.
As the years passed by very quickly, our family within our congregation left for a greater cause; pastor Neng Chu Vang and his family and other members left to St. Paul, planting a new Hmong Mennonite congregation there in January 2004. Pastor Shoua Moua and his family left to California where he continued his leadership with Mennonite in Fresno California.
In 2007, Pastor Komin Thoedpraiphanawan (Vang Kou Yang) joined the congregation as the church's pastor until May 31, 2012. Pastor Komin resigned his pastoral ministry with HMC of Colorado in order to achieve his higher education for future engagements. From September 2013 through August 2014, pastor Komin continued to minister our congregation as the Interim pastor, supporting and pledging his devotion to HMC until a new pastor can be administered.
Current Pastor
Pastor Chaiya Hadtasunsern (Vamtxiaj Yaj), joined the congregation on 08/31/2014. A welcoming installation ceremony was held on 09/28/2014.
More about pastor Chaiya:
Chaiya was born into a poor family with two brothers and two sisters. Chaiya joined the Mennonite family in early 2000, married in 2002 and brought his wife to live with him in the United State. He is a man who loves to serve others and seeks to help others fulfill their dreams. Additionally, Chaiya is the first member of his family to have the opportunity to travel to other countries, especially to the USA, to work as a pastor for the Hmong people.
Here are words from pastor Chaiya himself:
"In my sense of God’s call, it might not be the same as when He called the twelve disciples, however, one way is that I have the same sense as the twelve disciples; to love Jesus and His flock. I believe ministry formation is not what I do for Jesus, but Jesus does through me for others. Jesus gives His heart to me; it is to love and to serve others. I am assured that, Jesus calls me out from my family (brothers and sister, homeland) just to love and to serve others. I cannot serve other people whom I have never met before, and go to the place where I have never been before without this love. Love changed my personal direction from what I’d plan for myself, to another way of serving others according to God’s plan.
I know that Christian ministry is to serve others as a slave as Jesus did for us. I am a servant leader, who serves God and also His people. I am God’s slave and I do everything according to His will. I go to minister to others out of my devotion to Christ and love for others, whether the other people are believers or unbelievers. Ministry to others should be impartial and unconditional, always seeking to help others as Jesus would. We should minister by meeting people's needs with love and humility on Christ's behalf.
There are many ways that I would like to appreciate Mennonite in the way that they helped me learn to serve God and others according Anabaptist theology, especially Jesus’ model. They also encouraged me to develop my personal spiritual growth through personal spiritual goals. I want to see myself in the future as a professional in pastoral care and counseling, God willing".
Our HMC of Denver welcomes pastor Chaiya, his wife and his children to be part of our Mennonite family, we are all looking forward for a new adventure.

Congregation Name
As of 12/13/2020, the congregation voted to change the congregation name from Hmong Mennonite Church to Rocky Mountain Hmong Mennonite Church.

Mennonites
The name Mennonite comes from Menno Simons, a Catholic priest, taught and coordinated groups that were emerging in the Netherlands. He believed that "No one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ". An anabaptist, "meaning re-baptizers", who, like any other Anabaptist Mennonite Christians held many beliefs in common with other belivers (1). The Mennonite believe that Jesus is the center of our Faith, the community center of our life and the reconciliation center of our work.
